EOTC week

What an amazing time Room 15 children had in the recent EOTC week (Education Outside the Classroom). As well as a trip to the beach we went to the swimming pools, learnt how to sketch with a real artist and had a fun day at top town.

Sadly we are coming to the end of the 2012 year in Room 15 and as we reflect on our learning for the recent student led conferences we realize how much we have achieved this year and how much we have grown.
Thank you for all your hard work and effort, you are all stars! I am looking forward to hearing about your future successes as you move up the school.

Have a wonderful holiday break and keep up the love of learning.

Celebration today

Wow! The Kiwi team had an amazing celebration today, I was so proud of Room 15 and the way they presented their learning. It was a lovely end to a wonderful year of fantastic learning and progress from all the children.

Dance Unit Term 4

This term we have been completing a dance unit as part of 'The Arts' curriculum area.
The children listened to music about the sea and then we brainstormed and acted out the different things that are found by the sea. Some children were waves, others were animals found by the sea. Then we got into small groups and the children had to work together to create a dance piece representing the sea. This took place over a week of learning. It was great to see how creative the children in Room 15 are! There were some beautiful final dance pieces and the children showed that they can collaborate together to create these.

Room 15 love their vegetables!

Yesterday we went out and harvested our big silver beet plant and each child got to take some home for their dinner. Today we shared stories of the different things we did with our silver beet, Jordan made a salad with his, Pawan ate it with cheese and bread, Abbey washed hers and brought it for brain food today and other children boiled it and ate it (Including Miss J with her piece).

Today we went out with lettuce seedlings and planted these in our garden. hopefully by the end of the term we can take some home to have for dinner, mmm... yummy lettuce salad!

Here we are writing about what we did in our garden today:

Technology - Plant containers

Today we designed and made paper mache containers to hold our carrot seedlings that we are growing in the classroom. The next step is to plant our seeds in them and then watch them grow!

Shake Out

On the 26th of September New Zealand had an earthquake practice at 9.26am. We talked about how we must go under a table or door frame and cover our heads with our hands, like a turtle!

Here we are practicing what to do if there was an earthquake in Auckland:

Maths learning - Fractions and Geometry

This week we started our Geometry unit and also looked at fractions of shapes. We had lots of fun making our 3D shapes which are up on our wall for you to come and check out. Also to reinforce our learning, we cut up pikelets into halves and quarters (and got to eat them of course!) Wow, we are becoming amazing learners in Room 15!
